He was named the starter last season after recovering from a torn meniscus that caused him to miss his entire rookie season, and looked bad when given the opportunity. He completed just 57.6% of his passes for 1,632 passing yards and 11 touchdowns with 12 interceptions, along with 181 rushing yards and four rushing scores, across 10 starts.
The Vikings offense looked like a shell of itself over those 10 games, and the team brought in Kyler Murray to replace him. Things got so bad for McCarthy in Minnesota that he'd dropped to the No. 3 QB on the depth chart by the time Week 1 of this season rolled around, behind Murray and veteran Carson Wentz. Not what anyone expected from a player the Vikings traded up to draft 10th overall.
But what makes the situation most confusing is that he's still 23 years old and has upside as a former national champion at Michigan and widely considered one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Dart, meanwhile, is also 23 and now has to rehab from a serious injury with another young quarterback potentially looming over him.
