Commanders Get Major Terry McLaurin News Amid Injury Concerns

Terry McLaurin’s status took a turn Friday as Jayden Daniels prepares to return. Here’s the latest on the Commanders’ injuries.

The Washington Commanders’ offense crumbled last week with franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels out again with an elbow injury. Marcus Mariota started in his place, only to go down early with a knee injury, and seventh-round pick Athan Kaliakmanis took over. The Commanders fell 30-13 to the Colts and managed just 217 combined passing yards between the two quarterbacks.

But Daniels is reportedly set to return Sunday against the Giants, and he could get his top weapon back too. Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reported that star wide receiver Terry McLaurin practiced Friday for the first time this week after missing earlier sessions with a hamstring injury. McLaurin missed the Week 4 loss to Indianapolis with the injury, and he was trending toward missing Week 5 against the Giants as well.

This is a major improvement and could signal he’ll be a full go Sunday. He had 50 yards on two catches (nine targets) against the Cowboys in Week 2, then exploded in Week 3 against the Seahawks with 77 yards and a touchdown on seven catches (nine targets).

He’s Daniels’ most trusted receiver and the team’s biggest deep threat, and he works well alongside newcomer Stefon Diggs. If Daniels gets his full group of receivers back, it bodes well for Washington’s chances Sunday. It could simply be rest, but the status of both receivers is worth monitoring over the next two days. Kickoff between the Giants and Commanders is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium, with Washington listed as 4.5-point favorites.
